About Designer
Oscar Niemeyer (1907-2012) was a world-renowned Brazilian architect celebrated for his dynamic architectural and furniture designs featuring organic curves. Collaborating with Le Corbusier, he co-designed the United Nations building in New York City. However, his most significant achievement was designing the new capital city, Brasília, in the 1950s, transforming it into a UNESCO World Heritage site by 1987. In the 1960s, Niemeyer began developing furniture with his daughter, Ana Maria. Their first creation, the Alta Lounge Chair, showcased his signature curves and was manufactured by Tendo Mokko using traditional woodwork techniques. This furniture series continues to be used in Brazilian government offices today.
